- Upon receiving your At-Home Hair Paternity Test Kit read the enclosed sample collection instructions.
- Collect 10 hair follicles with the roots attached, place them inside a paper envelope, and label the envelope.
- Collect your own cheek-swab samples and place the swabs inside your envelope.
- Complete the consent form you received with your DNA supplies.
- Place all of the contents inside of the prepaid overnight FedEx envelope and drop the package off at a FedEx location closest to your home.
Please Note: New York State residents are prohibited from purchasing a Home DNA Test kit due to New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) guidelines.

How long does it take to receive my DNA results?
DNA results are available within 2 to 3 business days from the date the lab receives all DNA samples. Once the laboratory completes their analysis a copy of your results will be mailed to your home and an additional copy will be emailed to you.
Are Home Hair Paternity DNA tests accurate?
Yes. The accuracy of the testing analysis depends on the quality of the hair samples submitted to the lab. Quality hair samples allow the lab to effectively perform a comparative DNA profile analysis and determine a probability of paternity of 99.99% or higher, or exclude the tested man as the biological father.
Can At-Home Hair Paternity DNA Test Results Be Used Legally?
No. At-home paternity DNA tests do not establish a chain of custody, which is necessary for DNA test results to be legally admissible. Therefore, this testing option can only be used for informational purposes.
How long does DNA last in a hair follicle?
There is no set time frame for how long DNA can last in a hair follicle sample. The determining factors are how well the hair samples have been preserved and the conditions in which they were stored.
We recommend using paper envelopes rather than Ziploc bags for storage. Depending on the conditions, Ziploc bags can accumulate moisture, which could potentially contaminate the samples.
Hair follicle samples, as stated earlier, can last for days, weeks, months, and, under certain circumstances, even years.
Does hair have DNA without the root?
Yes. The hair shaft contains mitochondrial DNA; however, mitochondrial DNA is not used to perform the standard DNA profile comparison required for our hair paternity test.
The lab requires the root of the hair to be attached in order to obtain the DNA needed to perform a comparative analysis between the alleged father and child.
Can you get DNA from cut hair?
Cut hair without the root attached cannot provide the DNA required for our standard paternity testing analysis. The hair root must be attached in order for the lab to obtain the DNA needed to perform the paternity comparison.
