The Y chromosome is passed from biological father to son with relatively few changes, allowing Y-STR testing to compare males from the same paternal line. This testing option compares the y chromosome paternal line from each male participant involved with your DNA test to prove claimed biological relationship.
This testing option is for informational purposes only and cannot be used for any legal reason.

How To Order A Home DNA Test Kit:

- After you order your kit. It will ship within 24hrs from your purchase.
- Upon receipt of your DNA collection kit. Following the enclosed instructions on how to collect your genetic samples and complete your consent form.
- Place all items after you collected your genetic samples and completed the consent form in the prepaid return envelope going to the lab that came with your kit.
- Once your kit is received by the lab testing will begin.
- Upon the completion of testing. A copy of the test results will be emailed to you and a physical copy will be mailed to your home.

How long does a home Y Chromosome DNA test take to receive results?
The turnaround time for results is two to three business days from the date the lab receives all DNA samples.
Upon completion of your results, your assigned DNA caseworker will contact you to provide a verbal update on the status of your results. A copy of your results will be sent to you by physical mail, and an additional copy will be sent to you by email.
Do I have the same Y chromosome as my father?
A biological father passes his Y chromosome to his biological sons. Because Y-STR markers generally pass through the paternal line with relatively few changes, males from the same paternal lineage may have matching or very similar Y-STR profiles.
Are home Y-STR DNA tests accurate?
Yes. An at-home Y-STR DNA test can provide accurate statistical evidence to determine whether two males are consistent with sharing the same paternal lineage when DNA samples are properly collected and submitted to the laboratory.
Three common factors that can affect the quality of a DNA sample are:
- How well the samples are stored.
- The effectiveness of the DNA sample collection.
- Sample contamination or tampering.
Poor-quality DNA samples can make laboratory analysis more difficult and may require a new sample to be collected.
When sufficient DNA is available for testing, the laboratory compares the participants’ Y-STR genetic markers and evaluates whether their Y-chromosome profiles are consistent with a shared paternal lineage. The results may support a shared paternal lineage, exclude the tested males from sharing the same paternal lineage, or, in some cases, be inconclusive.

Yes. DNA testing can be performed when participants live in different cities. DNA test kits can be shipped to separate locations for sample collection.

What is the difference between a Home Y-STR DNA Test and a Legal Y-STR Test?
A Home Y-STR DNA Test is a non-legal testing option used for informational purposes only. This option does not require an established chain of custody, which is necessary for a Legal Y-STR Test.
A Legal Y-STR Test requires an established chain of custody and DNA sample collection by an unbiased third-party collector. All DNA samples are tested and analyzed by our partner AABB-accredited laboratory.
Will my information be kept private?
Your information will remain private. The lab does not share data collected for DNA analysis with third-party companies. DNA samples are stored for an average of three months before destruction. Data may be shared only by court order but not before the client is notified.
